I try not to be constrained by what I think an image should look like. I try to allow things to happen on their own. I like a painting to speak to me. For a quiet painting I’ll use a range of similar values, but for a livelier painting I’ll use a wider range of values with more light and dark contrast. When I’m painting I live for colour and light.
I feel watercolour is the medium best suited to the effects of light. Paint the right colours and the right shapes in the right places and your painting will appear.
